FITT and Greenway join forces to produce biomethane: a new step towards decarbonisation

A strategic alliance between industry and agriculture to accelerate the energy transition: FITT becomes a shareholder in San Daniele Bioenergia, a company controlled by the Greenway Group, launching an innovative biomethane production project in the Friuli region.

The partnership stems from a shared vision: to make a concrete contribution to the decarbonisation of production processes and to the creation of a more autonomous and sustainable energy future. Backed by an investment of approximately €6 million and supported by PNRR funds, the existing plant in San Daniele del Friuli will be converted from biogas to biomethane production by the end of 2025.

The plant will generate 3 million cubic metres of biomethane per year — a renewable gas with a methane concentration of 97% or higher, fully equivalent to natural gas. Of this output, 70% will be allocated to FITT to power its trigeneration plants at the Sandrigo and Fara Vicentino sites, making industrial production even more sustainable. The remaining 30% will be fed into the national grid and marketed.

The collaboration between FITT and Greenway is a virtuous example of synergy between a sustainability-driven agricultural supply chain and an industry with a clear and structured ESG strategy. FITT, which became a Benefit Corporation in 2021 and achieved B Corp certification in the summer of 2024, has long placed environmental impact reduction at the core of its agenda — focusing on traceability throughout the product life cycle and on the use of secondary raw materials.

This ambitious project is future-oriented, aiming to strengthen FITT’s leadership in sustainable industry while creating positive value for the local area, the environment, and the broader production ecosystem.
