High-concentration chlorine resistance tests

FITT has conducted laboratory tests to scientifically confirm the proven resistance of FITT B-Active to chlorine. In addition to the flexibility and special radius of curvature of the spiral hose for in-ground pools, its resistance to chlorine is another of its high-performance features.

The patented CDS (Chlorine Defence System) film offers extensive protection, even against high-chlorine water and acidic environments, guaranteeing lasting performance.

In order to confirm this special quality of FITT B-Active, the FITT Research & Development lab designed a test method that simulates accelerated ageing and deterioration of the hose due to contact with extremely high concentrations of chlorine.

For a period of 45 days, the FITT B-Active was left in contact with an aqueous solution of sodium dichloroisocyanurate at 8 g/l. This concentration is more than 500 times the recommended concentration for a shock chlorination treatment and 1,600 times the recommended concentration for maintenance treatment.

The test involves pouring the solution into sections of the pipe that are sealed with PVC plugs glued to both ends. This ensures that the aggressive solution only comes into contact with the inside layer of the pipe.

FITT B-Active Before the test and 15 days later

For the first 15 days, the pipes are stored at a temperature of around 20°C, whereas as for the remaining 30 days, they are tested at a maximum temperature of 40°C with direct exposure to sunlight, in order to accelerate degradation.

FITT B-Active 45 days later

The test results were very positive and showed an improvement over other traditional spiral hoses available on the market. Specifically, FITT B-Active showed no signs of deterioration from chemical agents or even discolouration, while the inner skin remained intact.
